Video: Third Thursdays April 15 with Justin Borucki and Randez West II

Justin Borucki began his career shooting local New York Hardcore and punk rock bands in the early 90s after discovering photography while fulfilling a high school art requirement. Since then, he has worked as both a music and celebrity portrait photographer and photo editor, going fully freelance in 2003.

Justin began a new chapter in his journey nearly a decade ago when he returned to his darkroom and street photography roots through wet plate collodion photography, an entirely handmade process with origins dating back to the 1850s.

In addition to Justin’s fine art street photography project, he offers handmade portraits—”art for the people”—with his pop-up tintype portrait studio and custom-built portable darkroom rig on Prince Street in Soho. He also offers private sessions and workshops on location and in his home studio.

Justin lives with his wife, five children, and rescued farm animals on their eight-acre homestead bordering the northern edge of the New Jersey Pine Barrens.

Randez West

“The Beauty, The Pain, The Joys, The Sorrows, The Highs, The Lows, my work is the true story of contemporary Black America. I photograph the raw experience. The basis of my work is to shine Light on my communities, celebrate the stories of my people, and to bridge the gap between the known and unknown in urban communities.”

Third Thursdays is a monthly artist talk from the JKC Gallery. This season’s shows will all be virtual. It is curated and moderated by artists, Heather Palacek and Habiyb Shu’Aib, and hosted by Michael Chovan-Dalton, Director of the JKC Gallery.  The talks were started by Palacek and Shu’Aib as a platform for local artists to showcase their work to the Trenton and larger regional community and quickly reached an audience from New York to Philadelphia. This season our virtual shows will have regional artists and artists from across the country and our audience reach has now gone global.
